Restaurateur/Hotelier
Joseph Melo, His Own Ambassador
By 1960, Mr. Melo bought into a restaurant in downtown Kingston, affectionately named "The Azores" after his Portuguese birthplace. In 1965, he moved his restaurant to the Ambassador Motel. When the motel's original owner sold, Mr. Melo bought and transformed the Ambassador to a Conference Resort which now boasts 251 rooms with over 19,000 square feet of meeting space, Kingston’s largest ballroom, an indoor water park, restaurant and lounge. In 2000, he also developed the Four Points by Sheraton in the downtown core of Kingston.
