Arlindo Vieira, A Civic Leader

Arlindo Vieira was the first person of Portuguese descent to be admitted to the Quebec Bar, 1978. In 1986, he became a civil servant working for Quebec's Ministry of Culture and Immigration. In 1995, Arlindo Vieira was appointed by the Government of Quebec as President, Conseil des relations interculturelles, an autonomous organization created by the Quebec government, 1984, to assist immigrants settling in Quebec and to ease their integration into Quebec society. Mr. Vieira has always participated in the activities of the Portuguese community in Quebec, serving as Founding President, l'Alliance des professionnels et entrepreneurs portugais du Québec, 1990-1992, President, de la Caisse d'économie des Portugais, 1987-1989, and administrator, Centre portugais de référence et de promotion sociale, 1978-1980. Arlindo Vieira was the official candidate for the Parti Québéçois in the provincial elections, 1985, for the riding of Saint-Louis.
