October 16, 2008 - Portuguese in North American Universities: Situation and Challenges

Call for papers: deadline Mar 31/08

Portuguese as a Foreign/Second Language has been taught in North American universities for many decades. Current records only give us a partial view of the situation in the several post-secundary institutions. The goal of this conference is to gather academics to reflect on the present situation of the teaching of Portuguese in several areas and especially to identify the challenges presented in Canada and the United States where teaching languages not only is not seen as a priority but competes with the worldwide influence of English.

Those interested in presenting in this conference should submit an abstract (about 250 words, in Portuguese or English) by March 31, 2008, with a title and a short bio of the presenter.

Conference themes and abstract form are available online at http://www.spanport.utoronto.ca/.
