Portuguese-Canadian National Congress - PCNC
The Portuguese-Canadian National Congress is a national organization that represents the nearly 400,000 Canadians of Portuguese heritage. Through our network of 70 nation-wide Directors, Delegates and local representatives, we speak on issues affecting the Portuguese-Canadian community, by engaging in regular dialogue with Federal, Provincial and Municipal governments, and participating in the Canadian Ethnocultural Council, as well as through community education and mobilization.
Portuguese-Canadian National Congress - PCNC
The Portuguese-Canadian National Congress was created in 1993 by a group of over 300 Luso-Canadian organizations and individuals. The purpose of the PCNC is to act on the social, economic, cultural and political development of the community, matters of social justice, human rights, the promotion of the full participation by community members in Canadian society, and to serve as a consultative body for the various levels of government.
The PCNC functions at local and national levels to:
- Provide a national voice to Portuguese-Canadians.
- Assist in the development and maintenance of our culture.
- Defend the interests of Portuguese-Canadians and ensure equality of opportunity and justice
- Function as a consultative body, and work with governments, communities and institutions to monitor legislation dealing with issues that affect the quality of life and rights of our community.
- Assist Portuguese-Canadians to better participate in Canadian Society.
- Facilitate communication and cooperation between the Portuguese communities and other ethnic groups.
- Promote good relations between Canada and Portugal.
